Until now, we have mainly dealt with inserting new products and adjusting the accompanying parameters. At the same time, we completely neglected the aesthetic side, so our site still looks rather boring. Fortunately, this can be easily corrected, because there are many free themes on the Internet that can be used for the visual design of the first online store.
I will opt for a theme called Storefront, and there are several good reasons for this. First of all, it is completely free, which means that you can download it directly from WooCommerce’s home site. In addition, it looks very professional and fits perfectly into the whole system. This means that all the information I have entered so far will be correctly interpreted and the content will be placed in the appropriate locations.
As I already mentioned, you can download Storefront from the main site, and there is an option to perform the complete installation from WordPress as well. I’m going to use this exact method, which means that I first have to go back to the main menu and look for an item called Appearance. If I then select the Themes option, it won’t be difficult for me to start the process of adding a new theme. Since the topic I need is in the basic database, to find it, it is enough to enter Storefront in this field and wait for the corresponding results to appear on the screen. As you can see, WordPress has successfully located the requested theme, so I can click on this field and proceed to the next step, installation. Before I complete this process, it wouldn’t hurt to double check that this is really the theme I need. Since Woothemes is listed as a data source in the upper left corner, which represents one of the branches of WooCommerce, there shouldn’t be any surprises, so I can start the installation by selecting this button. As soon as this process is finished, I just need to activate a new topic and check what I have achieved.
For that, it is enough to click on the button labeled Get started with Storefront, and the system will automatically offer me the option to install a whole series of additional themes (Child themes). They are used for even better adaptation to a certain type of activity, and you can see the complete offer if you scroll down a bit. On the left side you can see a list of all the free plugins for Storefront, and I will try to show you how to use them in one of the following lessons.
Now that I’ve successfully installed the new theme, it’s high time to check how it affected the overall appearance of my site. To that end, I will select the Visit Site option from the menu and automatically display its home page. As you can see, it currently contains only some general information, and I would like the entire site to be primarily focused on sales. In other words, a page containing product information should appear in this place, and this can be achieved in the following way. To begin with, I need to select the Settings item from the Admin panel and then click on the Reading option. After that, it won’t be difficult for me to activate the Static page option and set the one called Shop from the list as the home page (Front Page).
In order to be able to maintain contact with customers, it is necessary to direct their comments to the appropriate page. Since I haven’t created it yet, I have to temporarily choose some of the existing content, About, as the Post page. If after that I save all the changes and start the function that serves to create a new page, it will not be difficult for me to add a new blog and thus reserve space for comments. In the end, I just need to go back to setting the basic contents and choose the appropriate page (Blog) as the Post page.
I did all this with the aim of automatically placing all the products in my store on the main page. That task was successfully completed, but I still have a lot of work to do regarding its editing.
